When businessman Martin Piek's beloved father died, the funeral service provided by a local undertaker was so unsatisfactory, Martin's wife, Annalize said: "If we were undertakers we'd have done it perfectly!" The rest, as they say, is history. Martin & Annalize Piek founded Martin's Funerals in November 1989 in Randfontein, Gauteng. Soon the business expanded, from modest premises in Main Reef Road with a single Mercedes Benz 230 and a home-made trailer, to a fleet of imported hearses, custom-built trailers, full service premises with mortuary, store rooms and a security office. While we grew the business, we maintained thirteen branches - all self supported, as well as signing contracts with various mining groups, burial societies and insurance companies. Interest in buying franchises soon spread throughout the country and, growing from that single office in Randfontein, Martin's Funerals is now a multi-million Rand operation with more than 164 outlets. And we continue to grow rapidly, nationwide. We are a company dedicated to our clients. We are always available to those who require our services, and treat them with the love and compassion they need in their time of grief and bereavement. We at Martin's Funerals pride ourselves on our reputation as a caring and professional concern, who cater for the needs of individuals, families and bigger groups.
Martin's Funerals Franchising (PTY) Ltd is a private company incorporated in terms of the laws of the Republic of South Africa and is a member of the Franchise Association of Southern Africa with registration number 98/21700/07. On registration of the company in 1990, the registered company name was Thusanang Begrafnisdienste CC, with registration number CC 1994/06017/23. Due to the increase in new Franchises, we then registered as a (PTY) Limited.
